Mission and Values
Approaching Eternal Rest with Mourning Joy
T
I believe that care for the dying is a sacred calling and should be cherished. I specialize in end-of-life care by practicing an integrated approach. I believe in honoring the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of life. I believe the transition to death should be revered and that often the last months of an individual’s life can be the best months of their life. I believe that each person should feel fully supported throughout the end-of-life process.
I am compassionate, organized, and experienced in death and around people going through the dying process. I am able to provide a steady hand for the family and friends of the dying person while having the ability to face and engage dying myself. I enrich the dying experience for patients, family members, and friends, while strengthening the relationships between medical and nonmedical support. I navigate the signs and symptoms of the dying process while engaging the patient and family through the difficult and complex emotions associated with death.
I believe we need help going out of this world. I believe people need to feel fully supported through the dying process. Death is not the end, rather a beginning to the other side. I have found that when we contemplate instead of avoid death, it becomes a teacher and friend. I am a firm believer in education and advocacy. I believe when we choose to normalize conversations around death and dying, the world is remarkably changed and cultural stigmas can shift.
I offer a background rich in the study of death and dying and have experience at the bedside of hundreds of dying people. I understand the physiological changes that occur and recognize the comfort needs of each dying patient. I offer guided imagery, healing touch, relaxation breathing, reiki, and recommendations for medical interventions throughout the dying process. My presence and support are available in a holistic manner to the client and family both during the dying process and when grieving loss after death.
I can assist the dying in defining their wishes and offer care before, during and after death. Services may include practical planning, vigil planning, care for the body after death and bereavement care. I can co-create rituals, ceremonies, and altars for individuals and families who find value, comfort and meaning in these practices. I can provide this service for pets as well. I believe that people can be empowered when they become comfortable talking about and embracing death.
